Hola mis amigos. Como estan? Anywho, on to my new pet peev: the attempt to make college basketball college football. Some how the idea of BCS conferences has reared its ugly head in college basketball. For some reason, thing that has made college basketball great, every team in every conference has a chance to get in, has totally been evaporated. We are getting close to a point where if you are not in a "BCS" conference, in basketball, you have to win your conference tournament. This year, non "BCS" conferences got 4 out of 34 at-large bids. And, had Xavier and Butler won their conference tournaments won, like they were supposed to do, it would have been even less. Xavier, Dayton, BYU, Butler, those are your four teams that did not have to win their non "BCS" conference tournament to still get in. In four years this number has dropped by half. In eight years this number has dropped by two-thirds. Now, we have similar percentages of non BCS conference teams "getting in" ridiculous. Good thing that the ACC, Big East, and Big Ten got 7 teams in a piece. Odds are that those conferences will only end up with one team, maybe, in the Final Four. So, why not give the little schools a greater chance? Oh, I know the money.
That being said, on to some of my picks for this year's tournament. I must caution though, that any person that tells you they know how this year's tournament is going to go, really has no idea, me included. Here are a couple of upsets for you: I have two 12 over 5's: Arizona over Utah and Northern Iowa over Purdue, I for some reason have three 11 over 6's: Utah St. over Marquette, Virginia Commonwealth over UCLA, and Temple over Arizona St., I have one massive upset for you a 14 over 3, that's right, North Dakota St. over Kansas!!! You heard it here first. As for my final four, not that unusual. Three number one's and a number two: North Carolina, Louisville, Pitt, and Memphis with North Carolina beating Louisville for the national title.
Again, I'm probably wrong, but then again so is everyone else. After this, I promise more local stuff. The Jay Cutler thing should come to a head soon and I'll be in Tucson next week so I'll have a Rockies report for you from Arizona. Until then, have a good week.
Also, tell your friends about me!!!
