Sorry, it has been more than a week!!!

Welcome and bienvenidos a Mile High Sports Fan. Sorry I've been away I had a busy flight home from Tucson, a weekend to recover, and am now back to teaching special ed. kids full time!!! So, that being said, we shall recap the week in sports while I watch American Idol's top 9 sing the iTunes top 100. (Come on "I Love College" by Asher Roth)

Alright, let us start with the Final Four. I officially predicted one team right out of the four. However, because my family and friends also picked so poorly, I can finish one or two in all my pools should UNC win it all. Michigan St. can also help me out with a win over UCONN, Tim Haverkate I'm looking in your direction.

Second, if you have anyone other than Tiger Woods winning the Masters after this past weekend's performance you are retarded. Trust me, I work with sped. kids, I know retarded. He is Tiger of last year, only has two good legs and a short game. Scary, scary.

On to locals. The Nuggets seem like they want to be taken seriously again. I had the fortune of attending the game on Saturday night with a lovely girl, who by the way is apparently the catalyst of Linus Kleiza playing well. They dominated. They played like a playoff team should. They laid into Golden State and didn't relent until the subs were cleaning up the entire fourth quarter. I really hope they can continue this, maybe until June, or July, whenever the NBA Finals are.

The Rockies: Still hot, I am back to my optimistic, week before opening day, self.

The Avs: Only two weeks left. I might try and get out there to see them one more time, though. Watch Tony Granato's last games, for the second time.

The Rapids: 1-1 on the season. Things could be looking up for them this year.

Who have I forgotten? Must have slipped my mind...Oh, that's right, the Broncos!!! It's official peeps, oh man I need to get me some peeps, I love those marshmallows, anyway, Jay Cutler's trade request/demand will be honored by Pat Bowlen and crew. If you are a regular reader of the blog you know that I want the Broncos to trade Cutler to the Lions for both their first round picks...see how much he complains then. Well, Jay, it was mediocre, I hope you fail with your next team too.

Welp, that's it. Have a nice April Fool's Day tomorrow. Don't catch the Conflicker Worm. And, tell your friends about me!!!

P.S. No Asher Roth yet, but I hold out hope!!

Live From Tucson

HHHEEEEEYYYY YYYYYOOOOUUUU GGGUUUUUUUYYYYYYSS!!!! Wow, even I thought that was obnoxious. Good news everyone, I landed safely in Tucson, AZ the other day and I'm considering not freaking out on the plane ride back. Some of you maybe wondering why I'm in Tucson. Silly gooses, I'm here to see my grandparents...and also to see my beloved Rockies in Spring Training. It has been nice getting away from Jay Cutler nonsense as well, although he is apparently "our quarterback" so get used to it.

Hey! Japan just won the World Baseball Classic. Now I can watch Leno without worry.

Back to the Rockies. They beat soundly the Brewers of Milwaukee 7 runs to 1 run. That being said, I learned more about the Rockies than I thought I would. First things first, Ubaldo Jimenez was back in 2007 form. He had his fastball working in the mid to high 90's with lots of movement and off-speed pitches in the low to mid 80's. Jimenez was basically untouchable. He sawed off at least five Brewers and made another three look like they had too many brews. I really hope this can continue. Second, Todd "The Bod" Helton looks good. He went yard again today and had another RBI on top of that, plus his fielding looks as good as ever. Very promising. Josh Fogg was also great in an inning of relief. Now on to the not so good. Huston Street, I feel, will be the butt of many blog coming this summer. The person, who along with a couple of no namers, was of equal value as Matt Holiday did not look impressive at all. He came in with a seven run lead in the ninth. He proceeded to give up a run and load the bases before wriggling out on a great play by Ian Stewart and a pop fly. Thankfully this was not a save opportunity or it would have been like Brian Fuentes never left. Altogether, the Rockies looked better than I thought they would and Lord knows the N.L. West is terrible. So, maybe there is a chance for our Rockies.

A couple of other notes: The Nuggets don't know which way they're going, but if you ever get a chance to hear the Suns T.V. announcers do it. It is the saddest thing ever, like boom goes the dynamite with homosexual undertones. Also, my bracket has a chance, but it's not looking good. Finally, the Broncos will play the Giants at Invesco on Thanksgiving night, making it the second time out of the three years the NFL has offered at third game the Broncos will be playing in it. I thought that thing was supposed to rotate?

Also, tell your friends about me!!!!

March Madness Again!!

Hola mis amigos. Como estan? Anywho, on to my new pet peev: the attempt to make college basketball college football.  Some how the idea of BCS conferences has reared its ugly head in college basketball. For some reason, thing that has made college basketball great, every team in every conference has a chance to get in, has totally been evaporated. We are getting close to a point where if you are not in a "BCS" conference, in basketball, you have to win your conference tournament. This year, non "BCS" conferences got 4 out of 34 at-large bids. And, had Xavier and Butler won their conference tournaments won, like they were supposed to do, it would have been even less. Xavier, Dayton, BYU, Butler, those are your four teams that did not have to win their non "BCS" conference tournament to still get in. In four years this number has dropped by half. In eight years this number has dropped by two-thirds. Now, we have similar percentages of non BCS conference teams "getting in" ridiculous. Good thing that the ACC, Big East, and Big Ten got 7 teams in a piece. Odds are that those conferences will only end up with one team, maybe, in the Final Four. So, why not give the little schools a greater chance? Oh, I know the money.

That being said, on to some of my picks for this year's tournament. I must caution though, that any person that tells you they know how this year's tournament is going to go, really has no idea, me included.  Here are a couple of upsets for you: I have two 12 over 5's: Arizona over Utah and Northern Iowa over Purdue, I for some reason have three 11 over 6's: Utah St. over Marquette, Virginia Commonwealth over UCLA, and Temple over Arizona St., I have one massive upset for you a 14 over 3, that's right, North Dakota St. over Kansas!!! You heard it here first. As for my final four, not that unusual. Three number one's and a number two: North Carolina, Louisville, Pitt, and Memphis with North Carolina beating Louisville for the national title.

Again, I'm probably wrong, but then again so is everyone else. After this, I promise more local stuff. The Jay Cutler thing should come to a head soon and I'll be in Tucson next week so I'll have a Rockies report for you from Arizona.  Until then, have a good week.

Also, tell your friends about me!!!

Jay Cutler

Alright team. I promise I won't be blogging every night. I supposedly have a life. However, new things have developed in the world of Denver sports and I can not stay silent anymore. Oh Broncos, oh Jay Cutler, oh the sporting world we live in.

First things first, I would like to start by reminding all sides that they make more in a month than I make in a year, so I'm not sure what everyone is bitching about. Imagine how much whining Jay Cutler would do if they told him he was making as much as a third-year teacher on top of his job not being secure.

So, on to who's right an who's wrong. Short answer, everyone. Long answer, Jay Cutler. Let's start with Josh McDaniels and Brian Xanders. I get that this is your team now and you want to stir shit up. I also totally get the desire to bring a quarterback who knows your system and has proven themselves to you. It makes sense and I'm totally fine with, but if you're going to float trade offers for Jay Cutler you had better follow through with it. Jay Cutler, as he's proven, is not one who is going to let it go. Now on to the true idiot in all of this: Jay Cutler. Clearly no one has every told number 6 something he didn't want to hear all the way back to his time growing up in Santa Claus, Indiana. Jay, sometimes your name is going to be out there in trade rumors, deal. YOU'RE A PROFESSIONAL ATHLETE it comes with the territory. That would be like a firefighter whining about having to deal with smoke. What the fuck are you doing being a firefighter then??? Part two of this being your stupidity is that you actually think that you're well liked enough in Denver that the public would be on your side. Every person I've ever met that has ever encountered you, including myself, has the same thing to say, "he was a dick." I had to wait 45 minutes outside a bar/club in December because you and your yesmen wanted half the place to yourself. Actions like that are not a great way to win the favor of the fans. And, now all of us who have encountered you can't wait for you to go.

I know what you're thinking, "Sean, you complain and complain, but offer up no solutions." Well, allow me to tell you the three ways this ends. Numero Uno: Jay Cutler gets traded to the Detroit Lions for both of their first-round picks. Jay gets to go where he's the biggest fish in the littlest pond, which is what he wants and the Broncos get three first-round picks to do whatever they so please. Numero Dos: Jay pulls some sort of Stephon Marbury move and is actually asked to not come to games or practices. This is not what anyone wants put I do have a couple of suggestions for the name of the controversy: "Jay-gate," "This is what it Sounds like when Dove Valley Cries," or "Mile High Melancholy." Numero Tres: the Broncos sign Jay Cutler to like a seven year contract extension to prove just how committed they are to him. Jay would be happy, but Brian Xanders and pals would be setting a very, very dangerous precedent that would be the signature for their time in Denver. Really, it doesn't work out well any way you slice it.

So, Broncos fans, sorry for the bad news. Believe me, it breaks my heart to type such things. Unfortunately, though, this is what professional sports has become. There is one person who does enjoy watching this with a big ol' smirk on his face, we used to call him Coach Shanahan.

First Blog/March Madness

Hey team. So, this is my first time with the whole blog thing, but I figure if every other idiot has their own forum, why not this idiot? In all truthfulness, we all know that my opinions are the correct opinions and everyone who doesn't agree with me can shut it. My blog will mainly pertain to the sporting world, mostly local, in a woeful attempt to be widely read enough to obtain press passes to major sporting events.

That being said, it is important to me as a person who values honesty that I reveal my biases. First things first, all sports from Denver and the surrounding area equal good and all things sports from Boston and the surrounding area equal evil. I like to poke fun at Cubs fans, but do get upset when my Cubs fan friends start to cry at the mention of 1908 and I really, really, really hope my beloved Rockies do not put me in to the same sort of psychosis for the rest of my life. I also love my Yankees, and don't call me a bandwagon jumper, that will really piss me off, they were my team prior to the Rockies. I really like NASCAR and if you don't you secretly hate yourself. Also, I am an admitted member of a NASCAR fantasy league, but I am happy to say that I'm almost four months sober from that. I really hate bandwagon jumpers. The Rockies 2007 season of amazingness was great and enraged me at the same time, bandwagon jumpers everywhere. I already had the trombone section covered, didn't need anymore trombones. Finally, I need to share my biases on some major sports figures: O.J. did it, Kobe did it, Pete Rose did it but should be in the Hall of Fame, Roger Clemens, Mark McGuire, Sammy Sosa did it.

On to the first blog. It's one of the most wonderful times of the year. However, it's not just March Madness that I'm speaking of. We are in the heart of Championship Week, the part of the year where 31 of the 65 teams get into the Big Dance. Sure, there are a bunch of teams you've never heard of and who the Hell knew Oakland was in Michigan? However, Championship Week is the purest form of sport we have in the United States that's broadcast nationally.  These Mid and Low Major teams are not competing to have someone drafted in the first round or for the prestige that comes with winning the Summit Conference or the Southland Conference. These teams are playing for the chance to play another night. They are playing to take on the next opponent, whoever that may be. They know that they probably have no chance against their next opponent, but should they pull it off it will be the greatest moment of their lives. The best part of March Madness is that all teams have a chance, the BCS should take note, but I digress.  If any team in Div. I gets hot and plays to the best of their ability, they can not be taken out their chances can not be broken unless they are beaten by another team. My Northern Colorado Bears were 9 wins from a National Championship, I love that. So, my friends, be sure to catch some of Championship Week. There are still some great games ahead this week.
